MAITLAND-SMITH Statue of a Chimpanzee Looking Into a Mirror
SOLD
Borrowing its design from German sculptor Hugo Rheinhold’s 1893 bronze masterpiece, Affe mit Schädel or “Ape with skull”, this mass-produced statue by Maitland-Smith depicts a quizzical chimpanzee perched upon a mound of books, a small, rounded mirror in his hand. This statue has been heavily patinated throughout to suggest an aged finish with the chimpanzee’s mirror composed of subtle, polished brass that allows for slight reflective effect. Affixed with a maker’s mark on its underside.
This sculpture is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Columbus, Ohio! Come in today and see the full collection.
