This bronze sculpture by Belgian artist Ernest Wante (1872-1960) depicts a finely dressed female figure mounted on the back of a donkey. Resting on a base of green marble, the woman tenderly peers down to meet eyes with her faithful steed, creating a sentimental scene of charm and tenderness that delights in both seasoned art collections and quaint tabletop décor arrangements. This original bronze has accrued a well-loved patina over its rich history and has been signed in the casting by the artist along the bottom of its base.
