About the Artist: 

Jon B. Wahling (1938-2020) was a teacher and contemporary artist who offered significant contributions to the Columbus Art Community.  Wahling was born in Iowa, traveling to Kansas to attend art school and acquire his MFA.  He taught at Penland School of Crafts and Black Mountain College before coming to the Arts and Crafts Center of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department in 1964.  Jon was an original founding member of the Columbus Cultural Arts Center where he designed the weaving and dye studios in 1976-1978.  He spent his later years as the adjunct professor of design at the Columbus State Community College.  Wahling brought international attention to Columbus as one of twelve American Artists working with off loom techniques and was invited to exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City.
