Crafted from bonded bronze, this Art Deco sculpture by Italian-born sculptor Edgardo Simone (1890-1958) depicts Diana, the Roman goddess of hunters, countryside, and the Moon. Diana is gracefully perched amongst grass, a strung bow in her hand as she leads a hunt. Renowned for his masterful craftsmanship and versatility in ceramic, bronze, and plaster, Simone was classically trained at the Beaux Arts Academy in Rome before immigrating to the United States, where he led a fruitful career as a portrait bust sculptor in Hollywood and New York. This sculpture showcases a delightful, natural patina and is signed in the casting by the artist along its base.
