Sourced from the Makonde people of Africa, this original hand carved sculpture depicts the traditional Makonde theme of the “Tree of Life” with the interlocking figures of this sculpture serving to symbolize unity and continuity. Masterfully carved in what is likely African Blackwood or mpingo, this original piece of cultural art is signed “Rashidi” on its underside by the unknown artist.
